Apple has appointed Sabih Khan as its new COO, replacing Jeff Williams, who will retire later this year.

Khan has worked at Apple for 30 years and has been senior VP of operations since 2019. He has led the company’s global supply chain, supervising its operations, including product quality, procurement, and employee educational programs.

Before joining Apple in 1995, he worked as an applications development engineer and key account technical leader at GE Plastics.

“Sabih has helped pioneer new technologies in advanced manufacturing and overseen the expansion of Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the US. He is a brilliant strategist who has been one of the central architects of Apple’s supply chain,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

Khan will assume the COO position later this month as part of a long-planned succession.

Williams will continue to report to Cook and oversee the company’s design team and Apple Watch.

Williams has overseen Apple’s design team for the past several years, led the effort on Apple Watch over a decade ago, and played a key role in introducing the iPod and iPhone products. He has also assisted in the company’s expansion in the US as well as China, India, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
