Middle East grocer Spinneys will make its debut in Kuwait through a joint venture with Alshaya Group, expanding its presence to a fourth GCC market.

Under the agreement, the company will still hold a majority (51 per cent) stake and will continue the stores’ operations and management. Ten outlets are planned in Kuwait, with the first slated to open next year.

“Kuwait is a high-potential market and presents strong growth opportunities for us,” said Sunil Kumar, CEO of Spinneys.

“While the UAE remains the core of our operations, we are committed to expanding our regional footprint in a way that stays true to our brand values and proposition.”

The move follows Spinneys’ recent regional expansion, which saw twelve new stores open in the UAE and two in Saudi Arabia between April 2024 and August this year.

Founded in 1961 with its first store in Dubai, Spinneys has grown into one of the region’s leading grocers. It currently operates 86 stores across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

Alshaya Group, established in Kuwait in 1890, is a global brand franchise operator, representing 70 international brands across MENA, Türkiye, and Europe, with more than 4000 retail outlets and online.
